Shoppers who are about to leave often have one question left unanswered. Cart Whisper's exit-intent popup catches that moment with a message and the shopper's Cart ID, so they can contact you before they go.

Where the settings are

The popup is set up in the same Cart Whisper Widgets app embed as the cart widget. Open it from Settings → Cart Widget → Modify Cart Widget in Cart Whisper, then scroll to Cart Exit-Intent Popup settings.

Set it up

Enable popup: on by default. Untick it to switch the popup off completely.

When the customer's cursor moves to close the tab: on by default. On the cart page, the popup opens when the shopper moves their cursor up towards your store's header area, which is what usually happens before closing a tab. On themes with a cart drawer, it can also open when the cursor moves over the drawer's close button.

When customer has spent a specified amount of time on the cart page: choose off, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 120 seconds or 5 minutes.

Custom text for popup: the message shown in the popup. The default reads Questions About Your Cart? with a line asking shoppers to quote their Cart ID.

Click Save in the theme editor, then test the popup on your storefront. For a timed popup, keep the cursor option ticked as well and choose a timer value.

How it looks

The popup uses the same design and colours as your chosen widget style, with a larger header and a close (×) button. The script limits the popup to once per page load. Shoppers can close it with the × or by clicking outside it.

Tips for messages that work

Keep it short: one question and one way to reach you.

Tell shoppers what to do with the Cart ID ("Quote it in live chat and we'll pick up where you left off").

If you use Modern Widget with Form, the popup includes the same button, so shoppers can message you straight away.

Troubleshooting

The timer never fires. In the current version, the time-based trigger only runs when When the customer's cursor moves to close the tab is also ticked. Keep both ticked.

The popup doesn't appear on mobile. The cursor trigger needs a mouse. Test the timer on the full cart page on a touch device; do not assume that cart drawers and full cart pages trigger in the same way.

The popup appears but the widget is hidden. That's expected with Hide Widget. Untick Enable popup if you don't want it.
